Packaging Lead

Hours: M-F 7:00 am-3:30 pm

Location: Menomonee Falls, WI

Reports to: Quality Manager 

 

Position Summary

The Packager Lead directs the packaging team’s daily tasks, ensuring that all finished goods are correctly packaged, sealed, and labeled according to established quality and safety standards. They are responsible for monitoring equipment, troubleshooting production issues, and performing final checks to ensure compliance with all specifications before products are staged for Quality Inspection and Shipping. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Prioritize and assign daily tasks to team members (e.g., Packers 1 and Packers 2) to meet production schedules and deadlines.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide on-the-job training and guidance to new and less experienced packagers, ensuring proper packing techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards are followed.
  • Quality Control: Conduct visual inspections and checks to ensure all products are packed and labeled correctly before being moved to the next stage.
  • Workflow Management: Monitor the packaging line to identify and resolve bottlenecks or operational issues, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Equipment Operation: Set up, operate, and troubleshoot packaging machinery such as sealers, labelers, and palletizers, and escalate major issues to maintenance.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Accurately complete all required production and inspection logs and reports, and shipping documents.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce all company safety protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Inventory Management: Track and monitor inventory levels of packaging materials (e.g., boxes, tape, labels) and communicate any shortages to the appropriate personnel.
  • Communication: Act as a communication bridge between the packaging team and management, providing updates on production status, challenges, and solutions. 

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.  Some college preferred.
  • Experience in regulated environments such as ISO 13485 or FDA Part 820 preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Packager 2 or in a similar skilled packaging or warehouse role.
  • Prior experience in a leadership, team lead, or supervisory role is required.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging processes, equipment, and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, and packing specifications.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and using inventory systems.
  • Experience operating a forklift or pallet jack is a plus. 

 

Physical requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Capable of lifting, carrying, and moving packages, typically up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse or production environment, which may be noisy or have temperature variations.
